Southern Appeal Rises Again
March 8, 2008 – 7:17 pmSteve Dillard has revived Southern Appeal, where I was a co-blogger, though he’s now making it a solo-blog (for now, at least). Muchas gracias to him for the shout-out on my technical help restarting the blog.
Sigh…
January 26, 2008 – 7:49 pmWell, I’m definitely bummed that Fred Thompson is out. Out of the bunch on the Republican side, he was the only decently viable conservative. Now, I’m left with picking the least worse out of the goobers that are still in.
There’s something missing in my life…
January 10, 2008 – 11:34 pm… and I have finally figured out what that is: Wonder Sauna Hot Pants.

Fred in 2008
December 10, 2007 – 11:27 pmYep, “I’m with Fred“. Erick at Redstate.com largely mirrors my own thoughts:
He is pro-life. He’s got a better pro-life record than McCain according to the NRLC. The HLA may not be his priority, but he, Huckabee, and Romney have all taken the same position on it. Fred is not only pro-life, he recognizes it as such an important issue that he has gone further than the other candidates and expressed an intention to ensure his executive appointments believe in the culture of life. That’s huge from a policy level.
In fact, the only part of Fred that is pro-abortion is the government part of him. Fred’s never met a federal expansion he didn’t want to abort. He was frequently the lone vote in the Senate against government programs. You and I may get tired of his federalist tourette syndrome, but by God let’s not deny he believes in it. He believes in federalism in the original sense. It’s no surprise that he and Ron Paul are rated similarly by libertarian groups. And that’s why he is also pro-entreneur (sic). He’s big on getting government out of the way.
Of the top tier Republican candidates, Giuliani is too much of a social liberal, Huckabee is too much of a fiscal populist (though he supports the Fair Tax, a plus in my book), Romney seems to hold whatever political position is most convenient for him at the time, and McCain picks too many fights the conservative base (e.g. McCain-Feingold, Gang of Fourteen, immigration, not supporting the Bush tax cuts). Out of that bunch, only Thompson has been pretty steadily conservative through the years on all fronts. And he has a federalist streak that I like and wished more politicians had at the federal level.
I’m not saying he is perfect, he supported McCain-Feingold after all, but he’s the only solidly conservative candidate with a shot at winning the nomination and the general election.
Golly, wow
December 10, 2007 – 10:16 pmYe Olde Blogge hasn’t been updated in a while thanks to a combination of work, work, and more work. Not that hasn’t changed lately, but I’m going to try to open the doors on this place again. Let’s see how long this last.
Mississippi Election Markets
October 30, 2007 – 5:00 pmI’ve created “stock markets” for the 8 statewide races back in my home state of Mississippi using Inkling Markets. Just sign up and “buy” stocks (it’s all play money) of who you think will win in a particular race.

Tancredo Joins Prez Race
April 2, 2007 – 11:28 pmU.S. Representative Tom Tancredo (R-Colorado) officially announced his candidacy for the Presidency.
He’s a long shot to be sure, but given:
a.) His staunch position against illegal immigration
b.) The lack of such firm stances with the “Big Three” (Giuliani, Romney, and McCain)
c.) The down right hunger amongst the conservative base for a Presidential candidate not peddling a “comprehensive immigration reform” plan which they translate as meaning “amnesty”
He’ll be a force to be reckoned with when the race for the nomination really heats up. Tancredo’s been beating the drum about illegal immigration for many years now, often butting heads with the White House, and I think many GOP primary voters will look very favoritably toward him for that.
Still, Tancredo seems to me just lacks that certain something he needs to win the nomination and the general. I’m not sure what it is, but I just have a hard time seeing him as President.
Wow
March 29, 2007 – 2:54 amI’ve been pretty busy as of late with work and side projects, hence the lack of blogging. I’m sure my 0.003 readers were concerned.

March 4, 2007 – 7:44 pmSwitzerland accidently invades Liechtenstein. Please, there’s nothing “accidental” about this; it’s nothing but blatant Swiss imperalism. They will not rest until tiny helpless Liechtenstein is under their watch-making, cukoo-clock constructing, chocolate-confecting thumbs.
Republicans Gain Majority in Mississippi Senate
March 3, 2007 – 12:30 amState Senator Tommy Gollott has qualified to run for re-election as a Republican, which gives the Republicans a majority in the state Senate for the first time since the end of Reconstruction. On why he switched:
Gollott, the longest serving current state lawmaker, blamed his switch on a recent, heavy handed move by the state Democratic Party. The party threatened to not certify Democratic candidates who support Republicans in other races.
“In my political career, I have supported the candidates I believed would do the best job of helping the people in my district on the Mississippi Gulf Coast, without regard to political party,” Gollott said. “I have supported Gov. Haley Barbour because he has done an outstanding job helping us recover from the greatest natural disaster in American history. I do not intend to back away from supporting the people who have helped us the most.”
I can’t blame the Democrats for trying to enforce some party discipline, but it looks like they pushed too hard in this case.
